According to WebMD, complete elimination is not likely, but there are products that can offer some hope in reducing cellulite. Most of these anti-cellulite treatment creams only offer temporary results so a person has to keep using them in order to have lasting results.
According to Mayo Clinic, cellulite primarily affects women and occurs when fat cells build up and get pushed against the skin. This causes the surface of the skin to take on a rippled and clumpy appearance. The goal of cellulite creams is to penetrate the skin and eliminate the fatty deposits, according to Web MD. When shopping for products to reduce fat, cellulite, and other toxins, it's recommended that consumers look for products that contain certain ingredients.
Cellulite Lotion and Cream Products Containing Caffeine
Research suggests that consumers should look for an anti cellulite treatment that contains methylxanthine. Caffeine is a form of methylxanthine. According to a study published in the journal Dermatologic Surgery (1999), cellulite creams which contain methylxanthine are effective in reducing cellulite and improving the appearance of the affected area.
Researchers concluded that methylxanthine cellulite creams work by draining the fluid from the gaps between cells. It also stimulates lipolysis, a process in which the cells begin to burn the fat located just below the surface of the skin. As a result, the skin becomes firmer and takes on a more even appearance. Participants in the study noticed results within two months of daily use.
Retinol Cellulite Creams
Retinol, a derivative of vitamin A, can also help people who are interested in reducing cellulite, according to Cellulite Solutions (Infinite Ideas Limited, March 29, 2006) by Cherry Maslen and Linda Bird. The authors say retinol offers many benefits including its ability to help renew the skin by increasing its production of collagen. It also has a slimming effect and makes the skin firmer by increasing its elasticity.
Reducing Cellulite With Aminophylline
Cellulite Solutions states that a cellulite lotion or cream that contains aminophylline can also be an effective anti cellulite treatment. According to the authors, it is believed that aminophylline makes its way into the blood stream and breaks down fat deposits that are present in the cells. It goes on to say that aminophylline can reduce more than a fourth of an inch of fat and cellulite from a woman's thighs.
