Learn about easy home remedies for acne that can clear skin and effective methods for getting rid of pimples.

Certain home remedies for acne can work as well as medications in eliminating pimples from the skin. It is important to first consult with a physician before trying acne remedies because they may irritate the skin of some people, according to Mayo Clinic. Also, they often take longer to produce noticeable results than medicated treatments.

Acne Home Remedies

In More Chicken Soup & Other Folk Remedies (Ballantine Books, November 12, 1986), Joan Wilen and Lydia Wilen recommend using cucumber juice to get rid of pimples. To do this, take one cucumber and juice it using an extractor. Use a pastry brush to spread the cucumber juice over the acne areas. Let it stay on the skin for 15 minutes and then wash it off with lukewarm water. Use this treatment daily.

Another remedy that can help clear skin and get rid of acne is a cream made from buttermilk and honey. Warm a third of a cup of buttermilk and pour in just enough honey to give it a creamy texture. Let it cool and use a pastry brush to apply it to the affected area. Leave it on for 15 minutes and then wash it off with lukewarm water. This treatment also works best when used daily.

Acne Remedies for Stubborn Pimples

According to the authors, people with severe acne may need a natural detoxification in order to clear their skin. They recommend doing this every morning before breakfast. On the first day, this should consist of one tablespoon of lecithin granules, one tablespoon of cold-pressed safflower oil, and two teaspoons of brewer's yeast all mixed together in one glass of pure apple juice.

Each day after that, add an additional teaspoon of lecithin granules and brewer's yeast, until the added amount for each reaches six teaspoons (two tablespoons) along with the one tablespoon of safflower oil all in one glass of pure apple juice. The authors say that as the detoxification process occurs, the skin will become clear, energy levels will increase, and the hair will have a healthy glow. This treatment should only be used with the supervision of a physician.

In The Complete Idiot's Guide to Herbal Remedies (Alpha Books September 1999), Frankie Avalon Wolfe recommends using tea tree oil to cure acne. It has anti-fungal and anti-septic properties that can dry out pimples and prevent them from becoming infected.
